LeaseWeb, one of the world’s largest hosting brands, has teamed up with tier one storage and data management company NetApp to bring its customers faster, enterprise-class services built on state-of-the-art all-flash storage. LeaseWeb now offers NetApp All Flash FAS storage across its cloud portfolio as standard, providing customers with reduced latency and increased reliability for business-critical cloud applications.

“Customers will notice that hosted applications will be much more responsive and will run more reliably than they would on storage systems using spinning drives,” said Robert van der Meulen, LeaseWeb’s Manager of Cloud. “Due to our partnership with NetApp we’re able to offer a level of service that often only large enterprises can afford to deploy, which will be beneficial to our customers and channel partners, who increasingly place their mission critical workloads in the cloud.”

NetApp® All Flash FAS delivers the enterprise-grade benefits that make all-flash systems ready for broad deployment, with world-class performance and the industry’s best data management in a single solution. A maximum-size AFF cluster will do about 4 million IOPS at 1ms latency (8K random, with inline efficiencies). Throughput-wise, 100GB/s is possible. NetApp is one of the few vendors that has its all-flash FAS benchmarked by the Storage Performance Council, following rigorous testing and assessment earlier this year.

“NetApp’s All Flash FAS changes the way companies do business by dramatically speeding application performance and improving server efficiency,” said Dave Allen, NetApp’s Vice President Northern EMEA. “It’s ideal for deployment in a cloud environment, particularly for customer-facing, revenue-generating apps. With LeaseWeb’s proven IaaS experience and technology stack, we’re delighted to be working together to create this formidable offering.”

Flash-based storage offers a significant improvement over the moving parts of disk-drive-based storage, with less risk of technical failure and lower latency thanks to its improved read/write capacities. Ideal for performance-oriented workloads with strict SLAs, SSD storage is especially effective for developers who need to test and redesign new environments quickly. Furthermore, NetApp’s flash series with clustered Data ONTAP® software enables data mobility without disruption between all-flash, hybrid and cloud environments.

The new platform is already in use for LeaseWeb’s cloud services in the Netherlands and is expected to be launched in Germany in the coming weeks. Being delivered at no additional cost, the service is part of LeaseWeb Netherlands’ and LeaseWeb Germany’s new partnerships with NetApp. As NetApp Gold Service Provider partners, the service will also be available to LeaseWeb Reseller Partners, who will be able to pass along the advantages of SSD storage systems to their own customers. The platform is also expected to launch shortly for LeaseWeb’s services companies in Asia and the U.S.

“The NetApp partnership is a prime example of how everyone in the channel benefits from having rock-solid partner networks,” said Freek Hemminga, LeaseWeb’s Global Channels & Marketing Manager. “The implementation of this cutting-edge storage platform is a first for an IaaS solutions provider. It enables our customers and partners to bring their services to market with enterprise-quality performance and reliability, enabling them to stay competitive in today’s ever-faster and data-driven marketplace. We’re thrilled we could work together with NetApp to make this possible.”
