-
What is traffic billing?
Traffic Billing is very straightforward and the most common method in use at LeaseWeb: you simply pay for each GB of data transfer to and from your server, which exceeds the fixed bandwidth amount which is included in the monthly server charge. - Any bandwidth used above the substantial amounts of traffic, included, at no extra charge, in all of LeaseWeb’s servers is billed at the end of the month on a per GB basis.
-
What is Unmetered (flat) billing?
With a bandwidth flat fee, your server is connected to a port with the maximum speed in megabits preset to the agreed amount, for which you pay a fixed monthly fee, usually included in the server price. The advantage is obvious: there is no limit to the traffic and you do not have to worry about any sudden or unexpected peaks. You cannot exceed the fixed speed or be charged a bandwidth overage fee with this billing method, so you have maximum billing security with an unmetered flat rate port providing a guaranteed speed. You should be sure the speed you select meets your requirements, since the server will not be able to exceed the preset speed. LeaseWeb has one of the largest networks in the world and can offer very attractive pricing for high quality flat rate unmetered bandwidth packages for many of our servers.
-
What is 95th percentile bandwidth billing?
This burstable tariff gives you the flexibility to economically burst traffic to meet short term demands, without having to commit to this level of usage on a monthly basis, which you may seldom require. In this case, LeaseWeb commits dedicated bandwidth to you: if your traffic goes up, so does the bandwidth we provide you, up to the maximum speed of the dedicated port, which was provisioned to you.
With 95th percentile billing, an international industry standard, bases your bill on peak utilization. LeaseWeb continuously measures your bandwidth usage in realtime (every five minutes) and invoices any overage at the end of the month. However, the top 5% of the utilization is ignored and will not be billed. So you can have short bandwidth bursts of up to 36 hours per month (on average) without surcharges. You can follow your 95th percentile status on your Self Service Console (SSC). The horizontal red line on bandwidth chart shows your current 95th percentile usage for the month.
To use a simple example: if you are a gigabit port and have a 100Mbps 95th percentile commit, you can burst up to 1Gbps for an average of up to 36 hours (as calculated in 5 minutes samples) without additional charge. If your bandwidth is usage is in excess of that 5%, you will pay a one-time fee for that month on the basis of each 1Mb/s you exceed your monthly commit of 100Mbps, based on pre-arranged 95th percentile overage pricing. This is billed at the end of each month. -

We strongly recommend you enable a pro-active backup solution on your servers(s) since some hardware failures, such as a hard drive can result in loss of data. Such hardware failures are unpredictable on any system. In such cases, our employees may have to reinstall the operating system to return the server back to its original state. Data recovery is specifically excluded from our SLA, so it is important to always maintain current backups of data and system configurations. Important: One time fees for new orders
Virtually all customers will find a one-time fee added to their first calendar month bill as a new customer or when new services are added. All LeaseWeb services are billed by the calendar month, so the billing period for your LeaseWeb services will always start at the first of the month. • If you order a new service or are a new customer, the start date will often not be the 1st of the month. This is why there will be a one-time fee added to your first invoice showing the new service or, as a new customer. This covers the phase between the start of your service (i.e. the day on which the server is ready to use) and the first day of the next month. • On your pro forma invoice, the onetime fee can be recognized by the date, for example: : "XXX001 From 15-4-2005 to 1-5-2005 EUR 89,00". This one-time fee will also appear on the official invoice for your files.
-

There you can also easily sign up for monthly direct debit services.

Depending on whether you paid by PayPal or by bank transfer, it may take a while before your payment is visible in the SSC. If you pay by PayPal, the preferred payment method, your payment will usually be processed within a few hours. Payments made through a Dutch bank will usually be received and processed within 2 business days. For new customers a customer number must be created before the payment of the order can be added to the account. This takes a little longer and is usually processed within 2 business days after receipt of payment. If you have already paid the payment in question, and there is still no payment in the SSC after 2 business days, please send an e-mail with your customer number and payment details (printscreen of Internet banking, copy of bank statement or PayPal transaction ID) to administration@leaseweb.com. -
My credit card is charged by LeaseWeb automatically each month, but I have been sent a reminder. How is this possible?
If we are unable to obtain payment from your credit card because you have insufficient funds or if your credit card is blocked for online purchases, we will send you a reminder asking you to use another form of payment for the invoice. We process automatic credit card payments around the 10th of each month. It is important to ensure that your credit card details are up to date, as this is the only way we can charge your credit card.
Because we are dependant on the information received from Triple Deal for credit card transactions, it is possible that you have received a reminder even though you are certain that your credit card can be charged by us. In that case we will not simply suspend your services. We will always contact you to give you the opportunity to pay in another way.

How can I perform a File System check (Linux)?
It very important to note that running a File System Check on a file system that is mounted in a writable state can cause severe data loss or corruption.
To perform a File System Check manually you have three options:
In most cases a file system check will be run while the system is being booted up, before the file systems are mounted completely. You can reboot your server to have this done automatically. If any major problems are found, the boot process will halt and the server will wait for user-input on the console.
If this appears to be the case you can create a ticket at LeaseWeb Support by sending an e-mail to support@leaseweb.com with any information you have regarding the specific server and what commands were run before rebooting the system.
Run a File System Check through a Live Operating System or ‘Rescue Mode’ which can be requested to be run by sending an e-mail to the Support department at support@leaseweb.com .
When this is done a different Operating System will be booted on the server without making any changes to the hard drives in the server. A File System Check can then be run on the local hard drives through the Live OS.
Run a File System Check manually during the system’s boot process is if you have access to a KVM. You can reboot the system into single user mode and run the FSCK before the file systems are mounted or after dismounting them manually.is -
How can I reset the password on my server on a windows system?
Resetting the Administrator password on a Windows system, when you are logged in already, can be done by pressing control + alt + delete and selecting “Change Password…”
If you have lost the current Administrator password and are unable to log in you can send an e-mail to support@leaseweb.com with the details regarding the specific server that requires a password reset. In this case the server will need to be booted with a Live OS after which an attempt can be made to reset or clear the password through tools such as NTpasswd. -
How can I reset the password on my server on a linux system?
On Linux systems a user password can be reset on the command-line by using the utility ‘passwd’. Running this command without any options will change the password for the current user. Running it while logged in as the root user will allow you to change passwords for other users. This can be done with the command ‘passwd username’. In this case “username” is the name of the user of which you want the password to be changed. If you have lost your root password or are unable to log in with the known password you can reset this by having the server rebooted into a Live OS or “Rescue Mode” or by using a KVM and booting into single user mode if a KVM is available for your server.
-
How can I perform a server reboot?
A reboot can be performed by logging in on the server through SSH in the case of Linux or Unix servers, as the root user or a user with administrative privileges and running the command: ‘reboot’.
Windows servers can be rebooted via RDP by issuing a reboot via the Start menu.
If you are unable to reboot a server this way because it is no longer accessible you can have the server power cycled, also known as a remote reboot.
This can be done by logging in on the Self Service Center at https://secure.leaseweb.com. Go to the Serverhosting list and check the “Power-cycle server” column, this column will show the buttons that can be used to reboot specific servers.
When a remote management interface (DRAC/iLO) is available, the server can also be rebooted or power-cycled via the webinterface. -
How can I perform a Server Reinstallation (including control panel)?
Server and control panel reinstallations can be requested by sending an e-mail to support@leaseweb.com.
It is important to note that all data on the server will be deleted during the installation. If you have important data on the server that you would like to keep or transfer to the new installation, you will need to create external backups before requesting the reinstallation to be performed. -

How can I disable a firewall in Windows?
In Windows 2008 the firewall can be disabled by going to the following menus: Start -> Administrative Tools -> Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. This will open the advanced settings window for the Windows Firewall. You can then right click “Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer” and open up the “Properties” window, here you can set the “Firewall State” to “Off” for the three different profiles “Domain”, “Private” and “Public”.
Note that turning the firewall on when there is no exception set for the Remote Desktop Protocol might disconnect your remote sessions and prevent you from reconnecting to the server. If this happens you can send an email to support@leaseweb.com with the details of the problem so that we can change this on the server locally. We will need the current Administrator password to do this.
More information about the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security can be found in the Microsoft Technet Getting Started Guide at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748991(WS.10).aspx -
How can I disable a firewall in Linux?
On most Linux distributions ‘iptables’ is the standard firewall. You can view the current firewall rules with the following command: ‘iptables –L’. To flush, or clear, the current rules you can use the command: ‘iptables –F’. This will disable the firewall rules for your current session.
Make sure to set the default policies to accept traffic by issuing `iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT` and `iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT`. If the default policy is set to DROP traffic, flushing the rules will lock you out.
It is possible that when the server is rebooted the firewall will be reinitialized. Depending on whether this is set up or not you might have to empty the script file that initializes these rules to permanently disable the firewall. Scripts like this are often found in the /etc/init.d/ directory in Linux distributions; however there is no set location where you will always be able to find a script like this. -
How can I enable/disable Remote Desktop (Windows)?
Remote Desktop can be enabled or disabled on Windows 2008 by going to the Start menu, right clicking Computer, selecting “Properties” and then going to the “Remote settings” menu.
More information about the two choices for enabling Remote Desktop, “less secure” and “more secure” can also be found in this particular window by clicking on the “Help me choose” link. -
How can I disable RRAS (Routing and Remote Access) (Windows)?
Routing and Remote Access is used for advanced routing settings such as VPN connections. In Windows 2008 this is a server role that can be selected through the Server Manager.
To add or remove this role, go to the Server Manager at Start -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager. Routing and Remote Access is a service provided by the following role: Network Policy and Access Services.

How do I (Re)Configuring Windows TCP/IP Filtering?
TCP/IP filtering is no longer used in Windows 2008 versions. Advanced firewall settings can be defined in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
In Windows 2003 and 2000 TCP/IP filtering can be configured to allow or deny traffic to or from the server on specific ports and protocols. Details about the configuration of TCP/IP filtering in Windows 2003 can be found in the following Microsoft knowledgebase article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816792 -

Leaseweb has a strict anti-DDoS procedure. LeaseWeb monitors all traffic (in&out) via its cisco netflow. A flow is defined as IP traffic with the same source IP, destination IP, source port and destination port. When a destination IP address in the network receives more than 35.000 flows/sec that IP address is automatically blackholed for a certain time.
When an IP address has been blackholed an email is automatically sent informing the technical contact in the SSC about the DDoS and blackhole. The first time an IP address is targeted we blackhole the IP address for one hour, every subsequent attack (within 24hours) that time is doubled.
