The Organization
MamboFive is a software developer specialized in solutions for professional e-shops. The Utrecht-based company, incorporated in 1999, developed a modular suite enabling small- and medium-sized companies and corporate organizations to quickly set up shop via the Internet. Using its MamboFive Commerce Suite™ MamboFive can roll out e-commerce platforms within a couple of weeks, including associated processes such as inventory control, logistic purchasing and selling functions, and billing. Hosting E-commerce
The e-shops of MamboFive have a short time-to-market, despite the fact that they are delivered fully customized. “The exact delivery time depends on the type of e-shop, of course, but the other day we managed to get a complex telecom e-shop live in only four weeks,” says Frank van Doorn, CEO of MamboFive. “That is very fast. We know exactly which questions we have to ask to set up all e-commerce processes.”

The MamboFive Commerce Suite™ is a high-end e-commerce solution that can be delivered as a customized front-end application from EUR 15,000 and a monthly management fee. Because of their modular design, these extensive client-specific solutions can nevertheless be implemented in a short period of time. Van Doorn: “Because hosting is an integral part of our e-commerce solutions, we must be able to connect to our hosting provider quickly. Fortunately, the hosting infrastructure of LeaseWeb is easily scalable and communication lines within the LeaseWeb organization are short. We can actually scale in both bandwidth and space in their data center in a couple of hours.”

High Availability Hosting
Customers like KPN, Vodafone, and Debitel not only require a correct set-up of their e-shops; the uptime of the MamboFive Commerce Suite™ is equally important to them. “The availability of the application is crucial,” says Van Doorn. “To online shops of that size, being offline means instant loss of income. We want to prevent that and that is how we found LeaseWeb in 2005. The uptime of the LeaseWeb network is high and they can closely monitor the applications of our customers, 24/7. LeaseWeb also proved to be open and transparent; if they have a network failure, they immediately notify us about the cause. That is one of the key reasons for us to build a lasting relationship with LeaseWeb.”

Hosting SLA
Because of the importance of uptime, MamboFive also entered into the highest Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with LeaseWeb. Van Doorn: “It is a considerable investment, but the highest SLA level also ensures that the e-shops of our customers are always accessible. It guarantees us that LeaseWeb takes quick action if something is wrong. In these past few years the LeaseWeb Support Team always responded very swiftly. On the other hand, the performance of the network and the hardware managed by LeaseWeb is very stable. In three years, we only contacted the LeaseWeb Support Team seven times.”

High Uptime Hosting
Before MamboFive called in LeaseWeb, the hosting and management of the application was outsourced, but that was not very successful. ‘Our previous hosting provider did more than just managing the OS, but application management for the Internet is not easy,” says Van Doorn. ‘That is why we prefer to manage that part ourselves; it gives us more control. We cannot do the hosting ourselves, because we just cannot monitor the performance of the applications 24/7. As a result, we now have a lot less performance problems. Since we manage the applications ourselves and LeaseWeb is handling the hosting infrastructure the uptime is very good.”

LeaseWeb set up the e-commerce applications of MamboFive customers in the CO2 neutral EvoSwitch Data Center in Haarlem. For customers of the size served by MamboFive, this can be an important asset. Van Doorn: “Operating environmentally friendly has become a policy rule for an increasing number of corporate organizations. The CO2 neutral nature of EvoSwitch is a selling proposition for us, especially in view of the present social debate on the energy use of the Internet.”
